Seasons of Trust

Every time you turn on the news recently, you’ve likely heard something about war. For me, war is a frightening word that means conflict causing harm, death, and destruction. This season has caused me to reflect on the fact that throughout civilization, there has always been war, but why?  If you ask most people, they would prefer that we all just get along peacefully.  But war is a part of history and humanity. It is a season that erupts and yet passes.

What Ecclesiastes Teaches Us About Timing

I have been drawn to the beautiful passage in the Book of Ecclesiastes (3:1-8) that speaks to the idea that there is a time and purpose for everything. Even those things that are not in themselves good have a place in the larger rhythm of life under the sovereignty of God.

“A time to be born, and a time to die”

All life has a beginning and an end

“A time to plant… and pluck up”

There are seasons to begin things—and seasons to end or harvest them.

“A time to kill, and a time to heal”

Times of conflict and harm exist—but so do times of restoration and recovery.

“A time to weep… and laugh”

Human emotional highs and lows are natural and therapeutic

“A time to mourn… and dance”

Grief and joy come in cycles; one often gives way to the other.

“A time to embrace… and refrain”

Relationships have moments of closeness and distance.

“A time to get… and lose”

Gains and losses are both inevitable parts of life.

“A time to keep… and cast away”

Wisdom is found in knowing when to hold on—and when to let go.

“A time to keep silence, and a time to speak”

Words matter. Discerning both the content and timing of your words can be as important as the truth.

“A time to love… and hate”

Love is above all, but there are also things we rightly reject or stand against.

“A time of war, and a time of peace”

History—and personal life—moves through conflict and resolution.

Learning to Trust God’s Plan

Life is not random; it’s rhythmical, unfolding in seasons outside of our control. Learning to trust God in every season is where peace can be found.  When a difficult season of loss, waiting, or confusion comes, we are comforted by the truth that it is part of life’s natural rhythms, and we are not alone. Wisdom is accepting the timing and trusting in its purpose instead of trying to control it. Because seasons always change, we know that darkness does not last. If this is a time to weep, a time to laugh will surely come. Even when we cannot understand, we can trust there is a bigger picture unfolding for our good.

God makes everything beautiful in its time (Ecc 3:11).

Be Well ❤️
