New Year Nutrition Habits I’m Focusing On

There’s something about a new year that makes me want to hit refresh — not in an extreme way, but in a grounded, sustainable, I-can-actually-do-this way.

I’ve been listening to a lot of Andrew Huberman lately. He’s a neuroscientist and tenured professor in the department of neurobiology, and by courtesy, psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Stanford School of Medicine. And so much of what he teaches about nutrition aligns with what I’m craving more of this year:

  • supporting metabolic health by reducing highly processed foods

  • keeping blood sugar steady through balanced meals

  • spreading protein across the day for better energy and satiety

Nothing complicated. Nothing rigid. Just simple habits that help me feel good from the inside out. If you like to nerd-out on nutrition info like me, check out this episode from the Huberman Lab podcast!

So here are the exact steps I’m taking as I go into the new year and my bridal era 🥹:

1. I’m Reducing Processed Foods (Because My Body Feels Better)

I’m not cutting anything out completely — I’m just choosing more whole foods and fewer highly processed ones.

When I do this:

  • my inflammation feels lower

  • my energy is steadier

  • I feel clearer, lighter, and less bloated

It’s not perfection. It’s just paying attention to what makes me feel my best.

2. I’m Using the Build-Your-Plate Method

This is the structure that helps me stay consistent without thinking too hard:

  • ¼ protein

  • ¼ carbs

  • ½ non-starchy veggies

It keeps my blood sugar stable, helps me feel full longer, and gives me a visual I can use anywhere — at home, traveling, or grabbing something quick.

3. I’m Sticking to 3 Full Meals + 1 Protein Shake

This rhythm has always been grounding for me:

  • three solid meals

  • one protein shake

  • snacks if I need more fuel

It ensures I’m getting enough protein and enough food overall, which helps my metabolism, my energy, and my workouts.
