October for the Soul

A large tree with vibrant red, orange, and golden autumn leaves along a residential street in October.

No matter where you find yourself in life’s journey, October - this October - is for you!  It is calling you to a place you need to go, maybe to just lean forward toward rebirth or maybe to boldly let go and to run with blind faith and abandon to where your heart is calling. Let the October sun warm your hearts, and nature’s changing beauty feed your soul.

Be intentional. Look outside and find a tree, a plant that is on your everyday path or commute. You’ll know it when you see it. It has a color, a patina, that is vibrant or was vibrant, but now shows a different exterior. Still beautiful! Maybe now shades of yellow or red where they once were vibrant green. I want you to look and observe that tree or plant regularly this month, at least once a week if not every day. Notice the small changes, write down what you see, and close your eyes. Ask, what am I being called to learn this month, in this very season of my life?

Simple Daily Practices to Nourish Your Soul

October is the perfect time to pause and reflect. The beauty of the changing season from late summer to early winter is perfectly positioned to fill our senses and feed our souls. In addition to intentionally observing nature’s beautiful transformation, we can nurture our souls with these simple daily practices:

Morning routine:

⏰ Set your alarm 10 minutes earlier.

  1. Rise and look outside.

  2. Sit in a moment of silence with gratitude for all the blessings in your life for another day!

  3. Let the sun hit your gaze when it rises.

Evening routine:

📺 Retire and turn off all distractions (TV, social media, podcasts)

🧐 Lie down and reflect:

  1. What are you most grateful for today?

  2. When did you let go and trust God today? When did you resist trusting and instead tried to control an outcome?

  3. What is God calling you to today?

  4. Ask God to fill you with His Peace.

  5. Who is God calling you to pray for?

🙏 End with a prayer- your own or one of my favorites:

  • The Serenity Prayer

  • The Lord’s Prayer

  • The 23rd Psalm

I am so filled with hope for what we can learn together this month and where we will find ourselves by November. Wishing you a beautiful October 🍁

Be Well ❤️

Kelly
