Soul-full Reflections

Millions around the world this week witnessed perhaps the single most powerful public act of selfless love in our lifetimes. At the memorial service for her late husband, Charlie Kirk, Erika Kirk, quoted Jesus as He hung crucified in agony and spoke of His persecutors, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34). Then with jaw-dropping quiet conviction, Erika spoke of the young assassin who took her husband’s life just days ago, “I forgive him”.

Reflecting on the events following the death of Charlie Kirk there is a powerful message for us all.

Courage

Charlie and Erika Kirk courageously answered God’s calling on their lives to serve our country by teaching college-age students to use their voices, respectfully, to express their thoughts and engage in political discourse.  They understood that without civil debate, we as a nation settle for mediocrity.

Surrender

We have learned that Charlie, above all, wanted to be remembered for how he lived his faith. He surrendered to God’s will by asking Him to use him for His glory. He would pray, “Send me.” And in the days that have followed his death, we have watched Erika surrender her own life to carry on a legacy and a sweeping Christian movement like we have never seen before.

Forgiveness

Erika’s bold forgiveness of her husband’s murder is a single act that models Christ’s love for us all. Rather than let anger take root in our hearts, we are to always seek forgiveness, up to “seventy times seven” (Matthew 18:21-22).

Beauty for Ashes

We often hear that God’s ways are always better than our own. Yet in the midst of tragedy or suffering, it is often difficult to see this truth (Isaiah 61:3). We become so engulfed in sorrow or anger that we cannot see a bigger plan. That has not been the case with the passing of Charlie Kirk. From his ashes, the death of his earthly body, has come an enormous outcry for returning to our Judeo-Christian values, an uprising of faith, and an outpouring of souls seeking Jesus. Charlie and Erika Kirk have made an indelible mark on the world. Let us never forget. Live like Charlie. Love like Erika.

Be Well ❤️
